The Timing

Sun and Earth Days are quarterly windows of particular opportunity and promise for contacting and manifesting the transformation energy and consciousness of the 5th Sun. The Inka Sun Staff (ISS) mediates and harmonizes the evolving relationship between Father Sun (our local manifestation of the Universal Masculine) and Mother Earth (our local representative of the Universal Feminine). The ISS Community has chose the solstices and equinoxes as high points of its yearly sacred rhythm because they reflect the dynamic relationship between the fiery, manifesting light of the Sun and the moist, creative darkness of the Earth; between masculine and feminine.

In the cycle of the solar year there is an abundance of light at the Summer Solstice followed in the autumn by a balance of light and dark. The Winter Solstice is the shortest "day" of the year which is followed three months later by another balancing season at the Spring Equinox. The cycle begins again approximately June 21st, modeling a healthy creative cycle of inner and outer focus for our spiritual, family, career, and organizational lives.

Sun and Earth Day ceremonies can be anytime during the three day period around the exact time of the solstices and equinoxes each solar year. These sacred observances always feature a public Great Staff Ceremony and many personal and group Inka Sun Staff Ceremonies worldwide.

By linking with intention and love during these Sun and Earth celebratory days, we form ourselves into a powerful, supportive network for each other, the mission of our ISS Community, and the healing of our Mother Earth.

The Need

Traditional shamans and tribal elders around the planet are calling for their people and the peoples of the world to come together in a sacred celebration of beauty, harmony, freedom, and unity. Q'ero elders, the inspirational backbone of the Inka Sun Staff Community, tell us that the Medicine Teachings, long underground due to inhospitable governmental and cultural forces, can now be brought back into the light of day and the minds of humanity.

Modern Western societies have spawned considerable, even miraculous, progress in the areas of medicine, science, technology, widespread education, equal rights, increasing individual opportunity, and public health. Increasingly, however, by-products of the modern, fast-paced, urbanized, technological society that produced such progress is populated by individuals and groups that experience increasing stress, fear, and alienation. Hunger, terrorism, global warming, destruction of rain forests, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, immigration problems, civil wars, despotic leaders, religious zealots, and the widening gap between rich and poor are concerns. Although there seems to be progress in many ways every day, to many it feels like we are losing ground overall.

Our Mission

The ancient traditions of our native elders offer many values, principles, and ways of life that are antidote and treatment for the dark side of Western civilization and the toxic by-products of modern Western life. The indigenous elders tell us that healing can be found in the traditional ways of their grandmother's grandmothers. The Q'ero elders say that Huascar, the rightful head of the Medicine Schools and the ancient healing ways, is waiting in the Underworld, awaiting release and recall. The elders say this can only occur as the result of a surge of intention and an act of power by large numbers of humans now living in the Kaypacha, the Middle World of everyday human waking life. The elders say they need our help in order to manifest their prophecy. It is time to bring up the old ways to heal ourselves, our culture, and our planet.

This decade, 2003 through 2012, is the long prophesied transition to the 5th Sun. The Time to Come, as the Q'ero elders call this new human epoch, is now. The Ancient Wisdom Teachings and the great healing schools are being brought into the light of day by planetary events such as Sun and Earth Days. The "Time to Come" is June 19, 20, and 21, 2004 and each solstice and equinox thereafter.

The need and timing of the release of the Medicine Teachings is a cross cultural prophecy that is also known as the reemergence of Healing Schools, Secret Societies, Mystery Schools, and Ancient Wisdom Teachings. Countless individuals and groups are calling for and working on the proliferation of effective, powerful, and enduring teachings in many ancient, updated, and varied forms in all parts of the world. This is the promise of the 5th Sun.

Who Can Participate

Anyone who honors their inner self, cares for humanity and all our relations, and loves Mother Earth can add their heartfelt prayers and loving intention to Sun and Earth Days. Two keynotes of the 5th Sun are unity and inclusivity. We are all brothers and sisters, progeny of "Father Sun and Mother Earth."

How to Participate

Ceremonies can be as simple as a short prayer in your living room, as large as a score of people in a park, forest, or civic center, and as involved as an elaborate Despacho Ceremony after a long pilgrimage to a sacred mountaintop (this particular Despacho Ceremony took place near Mt. Ausangate in Peru at nearly 17,000 feet). Each participant's inner wisdom knows best how to invoke, ground, and celebrate the energies of the 5th Sun and participate in Sun and Earth Days. The ISS Community does ask that Inka Sun Staffs be used in Sacred Space, defined by your own tradition, and created in your own way.
